Description:
Kyōto
Higashiyama-ku (東山区, "East Mountain") is one of the eleven wards in the city of Kyoto.
- It is home to Hōkan-ji Temple (Yasaka Pagoda), the five-story defining symbol of Kyoto’s skyline. Originally built in the 6th century, the pagoda has burned down multiple times and was last rebuilt in 1440 - making it over 580 years old.
- Ninenzaka (二年坂) & Sannenzaka (三年坂) are streets that are part of a preservation district, so businesses must follow strict rules to keep traditional wooden facades and signage. This creates a cinematic, time-travel atmosphere.
